East India House
the 11. February 1830.
Sir,
I am commanded by the Court of Directors of the East India Company to return to you their best acknowledgements for the Copy that you have been so obliging as to present to them of the first part of your edition of the Hitopadesa, to which they have great satisfaction in assigning a place in the Company’s library, and I am to request that the Court may be furnished with ten copies of this edition when complete.
With regard to the favorable opinion which you express of the adaption of a correct edition of this Work as a Class Book in the East India College, I am directed to acquaint you, that the Court have already acted upon a similar impression, having caused a large number of copies to be printed especially for that purpose, many of which still remain.
