This project has been most favorably entertained in Germany; we have received the profits of many concerts given for this purpose in the small as well as large towns, besides private subscriptions. Nevertheless our means are still insufficient for the execution of a Monument in all respects worthy of this great genius. Besides his glory would remain imperfect if we did not obtain for it some conspicuous support from abroad, and especially from London which has become one of the principal places in Europe in which Music is cultivated in the greatest perfection.
