dʼune lettre de Sir James Mackintosh,
membre du Parlement.
My dear Schlegel,
I am desired by the Council of the University to ask you, whether You would like to lecture there for the three months of April, May and June next, twice or thrice a week on any subject you please and in any language, though either French or English would be preferred, and they might think the higher Criticism on German Literature – the theme on which most Persons would wish to hear you. The emolument from attendance would in their opinion and in mine leave you a Surplus after defraying the expence of seeing London and giving pleasure [2] to your Friends, among whom I hope you always number Your &c.
